The Calm Before the Beta

This year's HVRE team has only 2 more weeks until we plan on having a 99% done, almost "gold release" of what we should be presenting at this year's local video game convention; aptly named LexPlay (www.lexplaycon.com), which will be happening at the end of next month! One could say this is where the crunch time begins, and we do still have a lot to put into the game in just a small period of time. However, this isn't the first time, nor will it likely be the last, that a game developer has had to double their efforts at the last moment; if last year's HVRE project taught us anything, it is to be willing to put in extra work where and when it counts the most (and that seems to be in the last dozen or so days of many games).

As for updates for this past week (for 09/12 - 09/18), it was relatively quiet on the Mortimer's side of things - mostly because of people's personal and professional lives being a bit busier than before (with school work, side projects, jobs, whatnot) - other than thinking about and discussing with key figures some details of how exactly LexPlay is going to pan out, and our roles in the event as the leaders and volunteers of the VR areas. At this past meeting - on Sunday - we also had a few people come randomly help test out a few new things we had added (like the newly improved "hint system"), to see how it would hold up with even more people; in which it did, thanks to Drew, Sam, and even Cody from last time's testing session).

During the weekly meeting, we also discussed a little bit about how we plan on releasing the finished version of our game on Steam or other comparable clients/services, where we will then take the game from there, and it was even mentioned that there could be a very strong possibility that next year's HVRE might not be the "HVRE" at all, but would more than likely strut a new type of theme. That we'd try to get away from the horror for a little while, to possibly create a series of surreal, dream-like experiences that could interconnect to one another; look for more details on next year's "HVRE" coming in the future!
